Special Motor Equipment Operator (SMEO) / Laborer

Status: Full-Time, Union Position
Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week
The City of Marlborough Department of Public Works is accepting applications for full-time SMEO/Laborer positions in the following DPW divisions:
• Water & Sewer
• Streets
• Resident Drop-Off
• Forestry, Parks & Cemeteries
This is a hands-on municipal career for individuals interested in equipment operation, infrastructure maintenance, and essential public services.
Compensation & Advancement:
Hiring Rates:
• SMEO – $27.20/hour
• Laborer – $25.08/hour
Step Rates:
• SMEO – $27.20 to $34.36/hour
• Laborer – $25.08 to $28.21/hour
Employees may also earn overtime, emergency response pay, guaranteed call-in minimums, snow and storm pay, safety training stipends, longevity pay, and license-based specialty stipends—providing strong earning potential beyond base wages.
