WATER QUALITY ASSURANCE COORDINATOR

CITY OF EAST HAMPTON

The Water Quality Assurance Coordinator performs skilled technical and administrative work overseeing the implementation of the city’s Source Water Protection Plan; assists in water quality monitoring, tracking federal and state regulations dealing with water supplies, including across connection program, Source Water Assessment Program, and Consumer Confidence Report.

Job Type: Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week

Salary: $24.96 - $27.55 Per Hour

Essential Functions:

·         Operates the water system as the primary treatment operator.

·         Examines existing and potential threats to water quality; responsible for the administration, development, coordination and implementation of the Source Water Assessment Plan. Assists the Town Planner in preparing proposed zoning regulations for implementation by surrounding municipalities which will protect the town’s ground water sources; Attends Aquifer Protection meetings.

·         Oversees the town’s water quality monitoring program regarding drinking water; Collects water samples; prepares and administers all contracts related to water quality testing. Develops and maintains an ongoing consumer confidence report. Deals effectively with public complaints about water quality.

·         Responsible for tracking the town’s compliance with existing drinking water regulations and consent orders and projecting the town’s needs regarding future or pending regulations; maintains familiarity with the Safe Water Drinking Act and the Massachusetts Safe Water Treatment Rule.

·         Inspects and tests backflow prevention devices.   Prepares billing for inspection fees.

·         Represents the DPW at public hearings associated with source water issues.

·         Responsible for the Water Division’s record-keeping activities; assists in the tabulation of data and preparation of computer-generated plans; prepares reports mandated by federal and state regulations with regard to drinking water.

·         Performs similar or related work, as required, or as the situation dictates.

Education and Experience:

Associate Degree in environmental science or a related field; three to five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Massachusetts Water Treatment License Grade 1

Massachusetts Water Distribution License Grade 3

Massachusetts Cross Connection Surveyor Certification and Backflow Device Testing License

Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
