Job Description 

CDL B Motor Equipment Mechanic III - (170006MZ)

Position Duties & Responsibilities

·         Maintains records and prepares reports to provide information to superiors about work progress and problems encountered.

·         Issues Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Inspection stickers.

·         Requisitions and maintains inventories of supplies, parts and equipment for maintenance, repair and environmental duties.

·         Responds to highway emergencies which include operating front-end loaders, wreckers, sanders & tractor trailer.

·         Knowledge of using specialized computer diagnostic equipment to diagnose engines, ABS brake systems, electronic transmissions, CNG vehicles, hybrid vehicles, heavy, medium and light duty equipment and small engine repairs.  Diagnoses and repairs all emergency lighting on all equipment.

·         Responds to emergency breakdowns under dangerous and hazardous weather conditions.

 Preferred Qualifications

·         Knowledge of welding and fabricating sanders, rack bodies etc.

·         Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of automotive repair and maintenance.

·         Skilled in heavy equipment and automotive repair and maintenance.

·         Able to maintain accurate records; able to communicate effectively in oral expression and written form.

·         Knowledge of the principle of operation of diesel engines.

·         Knowledge of types and uses of equipment used in automotive repair and maintenance such as hydraulic lifts, bumper jacks, grinders, buffers and air tools.

·         Able to understand the laws, rules and regulations governing motor vehicle inspection.

·         Knowledge of the types and uses of precision measuring equipment and devices such as micrometers, caliper, etc.

Qualifications


Minimum Entrance Requirements: 
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive equipment such as automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

 
Substitutions: 

I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at the high school level or above, with a major in automotive shop practice may be substitution for one year of the required (A) experience. 

Applicants must have a valid Massachusetts Class B CDL motor vehicle operator's license and a valid Massachusetts Class 1B and 2A or better hoisting license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.
